Hi! My name is Kevin. I’m a specialist in training non-native English speakers in oral fluency… usually referred to as “accent reduction”, “accent modification”, “accent neutralization”… or simply “accent training”.

I’ve been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) since 1990, including 4+ years in Japan and several years here in the States with clients from many different language backgrounds. In the context of teaching Business English in the workplace, I’ve had a special interest in helping my clients to become “linguistically invisible” — to not stand out in the crowd because of a non-standard accent — by helping them to understand and use the intonation and pronunciation patterns that Americans use in everyday conversation.

In addition to my teaching experience, I bring several years of corporate business experience (both in US and international settings) and insights gained from graduate work in TESL and Intercultural Communications. My study has been focused primarily on the effect that a person’s linguistic and cultural background has on second language acquisition, and how to help English language learners to overcome those barriers.

I’m glad you’ve found me here, and hope that you’ll join in the discussion by posting your questions and comments on the blog!
